Summer Learning Camp
This summer learning camp is designed to mitigate summer learning loss in a fun, creative way for children from low income households who are behind in school.
Learn, Grow Thrive is a 6 week long Burbank Community YMCA/ Burbank Unified School District Summer School and enrichment program. Thanks to this program, underserved children in our community enter school in the Fall ready to learn at or above where they left off in May.
This program is offered at no cost to qualifying families due to funds donated and raised annually. Plus, campers will go swimming once a week and attend at least one field trip per week.
CHALLENGE:
- Children who are not engaged in enrichment activities lose an average of 2.5 months of reading skills over the summer. Children from low income families are especially at risk because they do not have he access to the proper resources and education.
WHAT:
- Lessons focused on vocabulary, spelling, grammar, reading, writing, and math
- Fun activities including swimming, arts & crafts, camp songs, outdoor games, and field trips
- Emphasis on character values, healthy eating and physical activity
GOAL:

The Achievement Gap Initiative seeks to help children read at grade level by the third grade and remain academically on track through high school graduation.
