Help Us Change Lives

The Y is more than a gym, it's a cause dedicated to youth development, healthy living and social responsibility. We couldn't do all that we do without the help of our many volunteers who consistently say that, they receive much more than they give. Our volunteers contribute over 6,000 hours of service annually to help us stretch our budget way beyond what we otherwise be able to afford. The YMCA has a wide variety of volunteer opportunities to match your passion, skills and schedule. See a detailed description of all our volunteer opportunities below.

Volunteer Opportunities

Stay and Play Room

Help provide a warm and nurturing environment for infants and youth ages 3 months – 9 years old while Mom and Dad are working out! Build a child's self-confidence through engaging with them in stories, play, crafts, games, puzzles etc. in our kid friendly Stay and Play room.

  • Teens, Adults and Seniors welcomed (Minimum age 14)
  • Flexible shifts 8:00am-1:30pm, or 3:30-8:30pm,s 8:00am-2:30pm, or 3:30-8:30pm
  • Saturday Shifts 8:00am-1:00pm

Youth Sports (Youth Basketball, Indoor Soccer)

Build confidence and skills while sharing your passion for sports! Become a Youth Coach. Volunteer Coaches needed to work with children and youth ages 3 – 18 years old. Coaches provide individual attention to each participant while teaching the value of team work and sportsmanship.

  • Teens, Adults and Seniors welcomed! (Minimum age 16)
  • 1 one hour practice per week (afternoon/evening)
  • 1 game per week (Saturdays)

Welcome Greeter

Help provide a warm, welcoming environment for arriving members and guest, provide basic information about our Y programs and activities, and provide directions and even a personal escort for new members who are still finding their way around.

  • Teens, Adults and Seniors welcomed! (Minimum age 16)
  • Morning, afternoon, evening and weekend shifts available

Fitness Ambassador

Provide support and motivation to fellow members during their workout. Studies show that people are more likely to stick with an exercise routine if they workout with a friend. Get to know members by assisting them with cardio and strength machines Be the extra support members are looking for.

  • Flexible morning shifts available from 7:00-11:00am

Facilities Helper

This position works directly with our Facilities and Housekeeping staff to maintain cleanliness, collect, launder and distribute towels for member use during their work out.

Youth & Government

Help develop our nations' next leaders! Youth & Government Advisors provide support to staff and participants including preparing for mock legislatures, creating and presenting bills, role play in court proceedings, and chaperon at a variety of social activities including dances, games and the Governor's Ball & Banquet.

  • Teens, Adults and Seniors welcomed! (Minimum age 18)
  • Program runs once a week in the evening from September through February

Service Learning

For high school students looking to gain leadership experience, learn new skills and meet academic requirements, the Y is a great place to be! We offer a wide variety of learning environments including our Pre-school and School Aged Child Care programs, Youth Basketball, Gymnastics and Aquatics programs, our Stay and Play babysitting room, Membership office and Special events!

  • Signed report of service hours

Fundraising event for our Child Development Center

  • Great volunteer opportunity for groups

Annual Support Campaign

Each year, volunteers band together to raise funds for individuals and families who cant otherwise fully afford needed YMCA programs and services.

  • Campaign runs annually in February/March

Turkey Trot

Come join the fun on Thanksgiving morning at our annual 5K/10k walk or run. Volunteers are needed to help with a wide range of jobs from assembling registration packets to set up and check in at the event to water stations on the race course. Proceeds from the Turkey Trot go to the membership assistance program which makes the Y available for children and families who need us most.

Farmers Market

Come and Volunteer at our information table. Share basic information about our programs and membership types with shoppers, give out guest passes and have fun sharing your Y story!

Burbank YMCA Service Club

Our Service Club is made up of active volunteers dedicated to supporting the Burbank Community YMCA goals and purposes. The Club raises funds to help support youth scholarships for YMCA program and special projects at the Y. Come and make a difference today!

  • Monthly Club meetings held on first Tuesday of the month at 6:00pm at the Burbank Community YMCA
  • Third Tuesday of the month Club meets at a local restaurant at 6:00pm
  • Major fundraising events: Pancake Breakfast (May) Christmas Tree Lot (December)
